Getting to Know: Dan Barthel

As a Project Manager, Dan Barthel is responsible for overseeing projects from start to finish and making sure they are completed on time.

Before working at DQE, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

The most unusual job was working for Lucent Technologies. It wasn’t so much the job, it was working the night shift from 11 pm till 7 am. That was my first time working at night and dealing with crazy things that happen only at night.

What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?

1. It’s easier to work with people than work against them.
2. Ask questions and listen to people’s answers. People will give you good advice if you really listen to them.
3. Work safe. Everyone needs to go home at the end of the day.

What are your hopes for our industry? 

I hope the industry will keep expanding the way we use technology in our daily lives. 

What do you like to do in your spare time? 

Fishing, hanging out at the pool, and traveling.

What has been your favorite project so far at DQE? 

I’m not sure I can say the name of the company, but we got to go behind the scenes in a museum.
