Getting to Know: Tom Neugebauer

As the Senior Manager of Operations, Tom Neugebauer oversees engineering, construction, and budgeting for all customers and expansion projects. He also manages all Points of Presence (POP) and facility upgrades, network maintenance, and customer-impacting outages.

Before working at DQE what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

That honestly is a toss-up between Paper Carrier and Cable TV Technician.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

I was a volunteer Fireman for 30 years.

What are you most excited about accomplishing in your role?

Employee growth. I believe we have a great opportunity to coach and mentor our employees, which will only make our company stronger.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, and golfing. However, I love spending time with my family. They are the most important thing to me.

What does true leadership mean to you?

I think true leadership is having the ability to coach, mentor, and grow employees. 

What drew you to DQE originally?

I worked for a big cable TV MSO, and a good friend thought I would be a good fit here at DQE. I believe I was the 8th person hired here. It seemed like a good company to come into an organization with nowhere to go but up!

What has been your favorite project so far at DQE?

Honestly, there have been too many. I enjoy the large projects with many sites, including West Penn Allegheny Health Network, Sprint, T-Mobile, Armstrong County 911, all the schools, eiNetorks, and our new endeavor – FTTH. Also, all of DQE’s POP upgrades and installations!
